Two months ago while visiting my brother in CA I read an article in their paper about letterboxing. Came home all excited.. My wife and I went to Oregoon for sping break and looked for letterboxes. We weren`t organized for our first find...no stamp or note book..just a printout of the directions. Of course our first box was Amanda`s from Seattle! Her Canon Beach box. Later I realized that it was only fitting that it should be one planted by the Queen of Letterboxing. Well, once we got back to Montana we we psyched. Our spririts were quickly dashed when we discovered that Montana is a letterbox wasteland! Nearest boxes were north of us in Kalispell and Glacier Park...we`ll get those this summer. So, we are on a mission to plant some in our area. Planted two just before the big system change. They made it into the Whats New site. Was waiting for the nice webmasters to transfer them to the Montana site. No luck yet. I also see the boxes planted south of Bozeman have not been transfered either. Tomorrow we are planting 4 boxes in the Rattlesnake Creek area in the Missoula valley area and will attempt to enter them in the new system. When I grew up here in Missoula we always said that trends that started in California took two years to get to Montana...guess it takes more than that for thing to take hold here from the East! Next week we are going to be in Amanda`s turf for our grandson's birthday and to watch the Mariners win a ball game. Plan to fit in some letterboxing during the weekend. We are going to look for Amanda`s Flaming Geyser Letterbox and some other boxes in that area .. Issaquah. Our daughter from Anchorage and her husband will be with us. They have had terrible luck boxing in the Anchorage area . So, we need a successful outing as the family thinks we are excited about nothing. Are the boxes in this area alive and well? Rockmover and Quiltmaker!!
Was I happy to see your post! I'm not in Montana, but down in Eastern ID
and it sounds like you are on the side that I can get to of Montana. There
may not be many up there, and there aren't here either, but I am excited
about LBing and willing to travel. The other ID boxer is in the west, but
also travels well. I'm sure we can be talked into some trips north.
I am also planning on some plants a little closer to you in addition to the
few I have planted here in my area. I want to do a whole series in the West
Yellowstone/Island Park area, which is quite close to home, and I have to go
up to Salmon, ID on business this month and hope to make some plants then.
That isn't too super far from Missoula.
Let's keep in touch and band together. I just gasp at the possiblity of
these PFX500 types back East and some in the far west. I have letterboxed
every weekend this month, gone to three states, and am still at a whopping
P4. I laughed after I typed in some of my clues telling people that they
should continue on from one of my boxes to the next because they were close
together and it was only on further reflection that I realized that they are
still an hour's drive apart with one in ID and the other in Wyoming! I
guess the west is a little different. Anyway, I will be just happy to trek
up your direction for some boxing.
Happy hunting!
